Bierzo, Castilla y León, Spain – 85% Mencía, 15% field blend of red and white varieties
Aromas of fresh plums and currants mingle with wild herbs, red fruit and subtle floral and spicy notes. Medium-bodied, juicy and precise, with fine tannins, a silky texture and a long, persistent finish. Grown on organically farmed family vines, 80 to 120 years old, in the village of Valtuille de Abajo, restored by hand by a husband-and-wife team. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it 93 points. Perfectly pairs with roast pork, lentil and chorizo stew, lamb chops, pizza and Manchego.
