Gutturnio Superiore DOC, Emilia-Romagna, Italy – 55% Barbera, 45% Bonarda
Fresh plum and licorice lead into juicy red berries and sour cherry, with a hint of cocoa and spice. Medium-bodied, with bright acidity giving lift and the Bonarda adding depth. Organic grapes from Val Trebbia near Piacenza, a valley Hemingway is said to have called “paradise on earth,” from families whose roots trace back to 1882.
Made for charcuterie and aged cheeses. Wonderful too with pasta in a rich ragù or a Sunday roast.
