Join us on Thursday October 16th from 5pm - 7pm as we celebrate the installation of Steve Speer’s work at Vine Styles. We’ll be serving wine, cheese, and charcuterie as you experience how these remarkable photographs have transformed our space. While we’re sharing a glimpse of them here and on our website, nothing compares to the stunning, breath-taking impact of seeing these works in person. We very much encourage you to join us for the opening and experience them firsthand.

We can’t wait to share this incredible exhibit with you. Come be immersed in art, wine, and conversation.

About the Artist

Steve Speer has been capturing urban and rural landscapes since the 1970s, with his work displayed in corporate offices and private collections across Canada and beyond. A graduate and later instructor at the Alberta College of Art and Design, Steve has also published two photography books and was featured in Freisens Printing’s 2015 Engagement Calendar.

His black and white and colour landscapes explore history, place, and memory. As Steve says, “nothing is more gratifying than standing in front of a finely visioned, well printed and beautifully framed photographic print and being transported by that image."

Italy 2023 Collection

For Steve, travel and photography are deeply intertwined, offering three levels of engagement with each journey. The first is anticipation—researching and imagining the possibilities of a destination. The second is being on location, camera in hand, working slowly and methodically, fully immersed in the act of seeing. And the third is the return: revisiting each moment in the studio, where the sights, smells, and sounds of that place come alive again through the image. His Italy 2023 Collection reflects all three levels, capturing the timeless beauty and atmosphere of place in a way that is both intimate and haunting.

Standing before his pieces, we felt just that—transported. These are photographs you can truly linger over. They tell stories without words, evoking history, people, and place—even when no figures appear. Italy2023-7 feels like stepping into a 1920s silent film, its shadows and angles pulling your eye across the frame in hauntingly beautiful ways.
