Rioja Alavesa, Spain — Predominantly Tempranillo (field blend with other local red varieties)
Aromas of cherries, red berries and a hint of thyme lead the way, underpinned by a cool limestone-minerality from the hillside (laderas) vineyards. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied with fresh acidity, fine-grained tannins and a good measure of bright fruit concentration. The finish offers pleasing length and balance, making it versatile and satisfying. Pair with roast pork tenderloin with a cherry-thyme glaze, grilled lamb kebabs with mint yoghurt, a fresh tomato and basil pasta with aged manchego, or even a charcuterie board featuring chorizo, olives and Marcona almonds.
