Friuli Colli Orientali DOC, Italy – 100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso
An intense, nose driven by blackberry and wild forest berries, layered with blueberry, black cherry and wild bramble, underscored by a savoury, earthy edge and a hint of violet. The palate is dry with a firm but manageable grip of tannin that carries all that dark fruit right through to a finish that leaves you with lingering berries and a light tannic tug.
This is a rustic, food loving red built for hearty fare. Try it with sausage, pork ribs or a roast pork shank, where the tannins cut through the richness. It's equally at home with grilled red meat or a slow braised game stew, letting the wine's earthy, savoury character meet the dish head on.
