About Javier Pedrazzini:
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Javier Pedrazzini is a former diplomat who transitioned into the world of winemaking after 22 years in the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2010, he joined Tenuta Monteti, a family-owned estate in Tuscany, where he now oversees production and represents the winery internationally. His passion for wine developed alongside his wife, Eva Baratta, the daughter of the family who founded the estate. Today, Javier brings his rich background and expertise to every bottle, sharing his love for Tuscan wine with the world.
About Tenuta Monteti and the Territory:
Located in the southern part of the Tuscan Maremma, near the medieval village of Capalbio, Tenuta Monteti is nestled in a truly extraordinary and untouched landscape. The region remains largely wild, with only 2% covered by vineyards while 44% is lush with forests and woodlands. Within this pristine environment, Monteti's vineyards stretch across 30 hectares, benefiting from gentle breezes from the Mediterranean Sea and the protective shield of the Monteti Hill, a prehistoric volcanic formation.
The estate, founded in 1998 by Paolo and Gemma Baratta, was designed from the ground up with deep respect for the land. With the help of renowned oenologist Carlo Ferrini, the Barattas planted varieties such as Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Alicante Bouschet, which have since thrived in this unique terroir, resulting in wines that are both elegant and expressive of the Maremma’s wild beauty.
The nearby sea, Mediterranean scrub, wooded surroundings, and the gentle breeze create a harmonious environment that is both an inspiration and a key element in producing these exquisite wines. The estate's commitment to sustainability and environmental respect has earned V.I.V.A. Sustainable Viticulture Certification from the Italian Ministry of the Environment since 2017.
What Wine Critic, Jo Cooke of James Suckling is Saying:
Jo Cooke, Tastings Editor at James Suckling, recently praised Tenuta Monteti’s Toscana Caburnio 2016 for its "crystal-clear blackcurrants and blackberries" and its "refined and expressive" character. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet, and Merlot, the wine comes from 45 micro-vineyard plots, each with its designated fermentation vat. Aged for 12 months in a mix of barrels and stainless steel, this wine stands out for its freshness and balanced spice, with velvety tannins making it incredibly drinkable.
