Veneto, Italy - 60% Glera, 40% Garganega
Tasting Notes: A soft, persistent sparkle carries aromas of lime zest, nectarine and white blossom out of the glass, with a faint almond note from the Garganega sitting behind the florals. The palate is juicy and fresh, leading with ripe pear and white peach over bright citrus, while a subtle liquorice note arrives on the finish and adds a touch of savoury interest to what is otherwise pure, easy fruit. Light on its feet at 11%, dry and clean through the close. A genuine crowd pleaser.
Pairing Suggestions: Really easy drinking on its own. The gentle sparkle and low alcohol make it a brunch wine as much as an aperitif — eggs benedict, quiche, or a savoury pastry pie. Seafood, sushi and ramen are all strong calls, and the bubbles cut through anything fried, from calamari to fried chicken to a bowl of popcorn. Finish with peach cobbler or a simple fruit tart.
Good to Know: Frizzante is made at a lower pressure than anything labelled Spumante — a gentler, softer sparkle. This is made in a similar method to Prosecco, but technically can't be called Prosecco: that requires at least 85% Glera, and here 40% of the blend is Garganega. Hence Veneto IGT rather than Prosecco DOC.
