D.O. Méntrida, Gredos, Spain — 100% Garnacha
Wild red berries, cherry, and crushed herbs jump out first, followed by flowers, peppercorn, and a stony, granite feel. Medium bodied and juicy, with fine, grainy tannins and fresh acidity that keeps it nimble rather than heavy. Pair with lamb skewers, grilled sausages, paella, smoked paprika chickpeas, or charred eggplant with tahini. Also great with pizza, tapas, and roast salmon with romesco.
The continental-Mediterranean climate is characterised by extreme temperature variations, from harsh winters to hot summers. Certified organic Garnacha from higher altitude sites, fermented with a portion of whole clusters using indigenous yeasts. Aged about 12 months in used 300 and 500 L oak, with malolactic in cask and additional bottle ageing before release.
