Alavesa, Rioja, Spain - 95% Viura, 5% Malvasia
On sun-kissed slopes descending down the Sierra de Cantabria, protecting them to the north, towards the banks of the River Ebro in the South-Southwest, here we have the Bodegas de la Marquesa Valserrano a 5 generation family winery in Rioja Alavesa, started by Mr. Francisco Javier Solano y Eulate.
Viura, the vines over 30 years’ old planted in the highest areas of their vineyards, with the poorest soil and good ventilation and exposure of the vine plants to the sun which results in the best grapes. Exclusively to be used to make a cask-fermented, cask-aged white wine.
Tasting notes: Fresh notes of honey, hay, tropical fruit, sweet melon, and sage. Subtle and pleasant, with a creaminess slight kernel notes and citrus cocktail that linger on the palate.
Pairing suggestions: Fares well with light meats like white fish tacos or buttery shellfish. Great with chicken noodle soup, the savoury herbs and sweet touch of carrots is just perfect. Try it with charcuterie and hard cheeses.
