Alta, Rioja, Spain - 95% Tempranillo 5% Mazuelo & Graciano
A family-run estate since 1870 which continues grape cultivation and production of classic Rioja wine. Their wines are a combination of grapes from Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, on the north-western edge of D.O.C. Rioja, producing wines with a great capacity for ageing. Using traditional techniques, harvesting by hand and avoiding the use of weed killers and pesticides. The vines grow bush and some are trained by cordon with controlled yields not exceeding 4500 kgs/Ha. In the vineyard a respectful viticulture is applied using organic fertilization in order to keep soil richness and structure that will feed the vines from which we will produce the wine. During fermentation local yeasts are employed, which transfer to the wine a unique personality giving to Urbina its characteristic complexity.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of black cherry, leather, toasted coconut, oak, and truffle. Silky flavour of vanilla, and stewed red fruit with a hint of chocolate.
Pairing Suggestions: Great for charcuterie and tapas boards with Chorizo and hard sheep cheeses like Manchego. Try it with Tagliatelle with veal, porcini mushrooms and truffle oil. Yum!
