Veneto, Italy - 33% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Franc, 33% Refosco
An indigenous grape to the Veneto region, the Refosco grape is done in an Ripasso style (Repassing through the grape skins, double fermentation) Basically baby amarone.
This method produces a more concentrated style of wine with flavours of stewed berries and sweet tobacco. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc bring a freshness to the berries offering more raspberry / black cherry. Along with some oak aging leading to sweet baking spices and a hint of incense.
Pairing Suggestions: Grilled or seared steaks, gamey meats like lamb or venision. Mushroom Risotto, or Charcuterie boards with strong cheeses and salamis. Great with red sauce pasta dishes, though it was also pretty tasty with Carbonara!
