While I’m sitting here at home in complete awe watching the Olympics in Brazil, I can’t help but want to sip on something. I was immediately reminded of a cocktail I had in South America many years ago, a Caipirinha. This is a cocktail famous to Brazil made with Cachaça, a spirit made with fresh cut sugar cane and a true celebration of the host country!
What You’ll Need (makes 1)
- Half of a lime, cut into quarters
- 2 tbsp white sugar
- Crushed ice
- 1 oz Cachaça
What You Need To Do
In an old fashioned glass, add lime and sugar together, muddle. Fill glass with crushed ice, top with Cachaça. Stir and enjoy.
What It Tastes Like
Cachaça has a very distinctive taste that is very apparent on the palate. It’s wonderfully matched with the tartness from fresh pressed lime juice and the sweetness from the white sugar. The cocktail has almost a salty quality, very reminiscent of a margarita.
